Our home in many ways is deeply part of who we are, or is it? My real estate journey has taken me into many homes of seniors who are caught in a dilemma which at times seems too difficult to find a positive solution. The decision to leave a house, or better put, a lifetime of memories and experiences both happy and sad, is a decision that takes a great deal of thought and soul searching. The reasons for moving can be many: the death of a spouse, maintenance issues, health concerns, financial pressures, or the urge to be closer to children and friends. But reasons to move can also be self-directed and well planned. Why not consider a move to enhance and re-inspire your life so that you are enjoying life with freedom and simplicity! The happiest and most secure clients I've had are the folks that had taken the time to design their future as opposed to waiting for circumstance to dictate their next move.

Take a few moments to assess where you are right now. Yes, I know you are aware of your present situation, and don't need anyone to tell you how to think about your current situation. But take a look at your current needs and desires, as well as your ability to maintain a home that may need attention that you just don't have the energy or resources to handle. Get out a pen and paper, and write down on one side all of the enjoyable aspects of your home. These would be the reasons for staying that bring a smile of happiness when you think of your future years in your home. One the other side, write down all of the aspects of your current situation that bring anxiety and worry about the future in your home. Now you'll have an honest look at your life, and it will become obvious which direction you may want to proceed.

The results should point you in the direction of the most carefree lifestyle, as well as the most secure path for you to follow. Staying in your present home may be the right answer for you, and that is just where you are supposed to be. But if the results point you in the direction of a new home, and a more rewarding lifestyle, then have the courage to begin the process with planning and serious thought as to how to best match your housing with your needs and wants in mind. Remember, this life is precious, and every moment is a gift. Live each of those moments to the fullest with the happiness and security you worked so hard to attain.

Retirement can be re-inspirement if you choose to treat yourself as one who takes charge of a life that is precious and rare. Live in the moment and you'll see that each minute, each hour, is an opportunity to enjoy and examine the exciting and interesting world around us.
